William Kirk Limited has welcomed two new apprentices to its 90-strong workforce.
The two apprentices, Joe Henshaw and Dillon Frost will both be joining William Kirk on three year programmes which are provided in partnership with Mantra Learning, who has been offering learning and skills programmes to support the logistics sector for over 40 years.
Joe Henshaw will work across the business in several departments whilst working towards his Customer Service Level 2 Diploma, from there he will move into the Traffic Office where he will study Traffic Management.
Dillon Frost will be working in the William Kirk Garage whilst completing his Level 2 and Level 3 Diplomas in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair.

William Kirk has been providing quality warehousing and distribution services for over 50 years in the local area so we are pleased to be investing in our future by bringing the next generation into the company.”
William Kirk currently employs approx. 90 staff, and operates a fleet of 50 vehicles.
William Kirk is also part of Kinaxia Logistics which has 1,040 staff, a total turnover of £ 95 million/year, operates 600 vehicles and has 925,000 square feet of warehouse space.
It is also fitting that William Kirk should welcome two apprentices in to the business, at a time that coincides with the RHA’s (Road Haulage Association) annual National Lorry Week. The RHA’s campaign is aimed at raising awareness of the industry in the hope of attracting young people to the sector.
The RHA report that the road haulage and logistics sector is the fifth largest industry in the UK, employing 1.8m people with a collective turnover in excess of £78 billion.
However, despite it being responsible for the movement of 85% of goods in the UK, and the industry having projected growth there is an intrinsic lack of young talent being attracted to the sector.
